A group calling itself the Defenders of Democratic Ideals has blasted Southern politicians for allowing themselves to be used as pawns in the icy political games playing out in Nigeria. The group in a statement issued in Abuja lamented the ignoble roles being played by Governor Nyesom Wike and Honorable Minister Rotimi Amaechi and others in tow namely David Umahi, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Further along the route, there is Comrade Adams Oshiomole who squandered a golden opportunity to lead the South-South for no just cause. He was involved in such a meaningless supremacy fight that cost him his throne. A source wondered why, down the South East, Orji Kalu would be clamouring for the top position when popular figures who remain untainted such as Ogbonnaya Onu, Peter Obi are.
Same applies to the Ohaneze that has yet to articulate any formal position on national issues, unlike the Yoruba Afenifere that remains unified. “When the Igbos got the senate presidency, within six years they had several challengers”, noted the statement. “They are unable to speak with one voice”, the statement further observed. “Today, the powers that be are doing everything possible to decapitate the PDP, and these so-called governors cannot read through the lines to know the fate the ruling party plan for them “decried the statement.
This is why as has been observed politicians aren’t happy moments after leaving office. “They live a bitter life, which is why they run from Reps to the senate, then local government chairman, such an unsatisfactory life” a source explained. Now as 2023 approaches, no thought is given to infrastructural rebuilding only personal aggrandizement. “This is extremely frustrating as no country ever develops this way”, the committee noted.
