Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has been reinstated as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. The reinstatement followed the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to look into his controversial removal by the Wale Babalakin led Governing Council who tried to play a fast one. Professor Ogundipe who was not given any opportunity to defend himself on the allegations upon which his removal was based however stood his grounds. Now it has been revealed that due process was not followed in appointing a replacement for him in the person of Professor Molulu Soyombo as Acting Vice-Chancellor. A statement from the Federal Ministry of Education dissolved the Council and referred the matter for a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, it has turned out to be a case of the hunter becoming the hunted. Dr Wale Babalakin, a veteran Senior Advocate of Nigeria may have thrown caution to the winds by embarking on a course of action outside the provisions of the law relating to the appointment of an Acting Vice-Chancellor.
