Two prominent Nigerians, Mrs. Winifred Ekanan Oyo-Ita and Okoi Obono-Obla are in deep waters. Reason: they have stepped into forbidden territories.
Mrs. Oyo-Ita, currently head of Service is in the net for alleged N3 billion contract scam. She is also under spotlight for abuse of duty tour allowance for which about N600 million had been traced. She is also alleged to have used different fronts or associates to obtain contracts from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Obono-Obla, following allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, intimidation forgery and malicious investigation was ordered suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari, Obonoi-Obla was the Chairman, Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property. What irked the President most was Obla’s involvement in the secondment of over 100 policemen to SPIP and engaging lawyers to file charges without recourse to the Attorney-General’s office. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) are believed to have waded into the matter.
However, reporters attached to the Newspaperman are worried on the haste to dig into Oyo-Ita’s affairs coming not too long after the Abdulrasheed Maima’s saga, when he was allegedly smuggled back into the Civil Service. Officials of the Newspaperman are however wondering at the rise of corruption even amongst those who claim to be easy going only to end up having billions discovered in their accounts.
