Professor Aliyu Jauro, the Director-General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency(NESREA) has been given the nod for a second term of another four years in office. The appointment takes effect from February 28, 2023.
In Approving the appointment, a statement from the presidency admitted that Jauro’s performance has been exemplary in the first four years of his tenure. The statement pointed to his exceptional character in handling otherwise difficult environmental problems. “Prof Jauro did so well in Compliance Monitoring and Environmental Regulations,” said the source at the presidency. He is also working hard at rolling out the first-ever National Vehicular and Generator Emission Control Programmes.
The Director-General was first appointed on the 26th of February 2019, and since then wasted no time in establishing his authority. A professor of Chemistry from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ABTU), Bauchi, Jauro, poured his energy into resuscitating vital programs of the agency notably the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for the achievement of Circular Economy for Nigeria. He also introduced the widely accepted Environmental Awards Programme which was held for the first time in December 2022, at the Banquet Hall, Aso Rock, Abuja.
Prof Aliyu Jauro is easygoing and exceptionally brilliant. One of the environmental experts interviewed has this to say “Jauro is exceptionally gifted and well-liked; we wish him all the best in this new development”. Earlier, a statement from the Ministry of Environment signed by one Olusegun Shogbola, a Personal Assistant on Media and ICT to the Minister of Environment, conveyed the presidency’s letter confirming the appointment.
