The National Librarian Prof Chinwe Anunobi has received thunderous applause from across the board for introducing new ideas and vibrant policies to the foremost educational establishment.
A coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria have rallied their support for the National Librarian of Nigeria Prof Chinwe Anunobi and passed a vote on confidence in her programs and activities.
In a press statement cited by our reporters, the Civil Society Groups speaking under the aegis of Network of Advocacy for Positive Impact led by Comrade Williams Smith Bassey and Nzeh Frank White automatically passed a vote of confidence on the Chief Librarian for her transparency, forthrightness, and diligence.
The coalition’s leaders dismissed the claims making the rounds by some elements within the establishment and rubbished the account peddled against her actions. “Mrs. Chinwe is very honest, focused and result oriented and we have found this to be true”, declared comrade Williams Smith Bassey, in the press statement.
The coalition cautioned staff members to be steadfast and throw their weight behind genuine authorities and not take sides with disgruntled personalities who are bereft of any idea of running an agency of that magnitude. “Mrs. Chinwe is very qualified as the Chief Librarian and she merits her position; her Curriculum Vitae is an encyclopedia of brilliance and commitment and only a mischievous person will dispute that fact”, said Comrade Williams. “You can see genuine efforts to build up her career and the painstaking strategy put in place such as writing books and journals”, he stated.
The coalition furthermore gave kudos to Mrs. Chinwe for digitalizing Library development in Nigeria and attempting to up the game in information gathering and sourcing. “We have witnessed a civil service that has refused to go digital and has preferred to remain stagnant with primordial principles; now we have a government appointee who is bringing unprecedented changes in the system and some people are resisting”, claimed Comrade Williams.
The coalition, while urging President Tinubu to disregard dissenting views and opinions, then pledged their unalloyed loyalty and support for the Chief Librarian and urged members of staff to do the same and distance themselves from unnecessary bickering for power adding that promotion only comes from God!
Mrs. Chinwe Anunobi, a professor of Library and Information Sciences has played a crucial role in the formation of aspiring LIS professionals in ICT application in Libraries. A chronic workaholic, she was also instrumental in pioneering the establishment of the ICT Unit Electronic Thesis and Dissertation System and University Library Automation.
Married with four children, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology(Education) from Unsukka University in 1992, and a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) in 1997 from Imo State University, Owerri, and PH. D in Library and Information Sciences from same Unsukka in 2006.
Since her appointment in September 2012 by erstwhile president Muhammadu Buhari, the National Library has witnessed giant strides and massive development, especially in the digital sector. She is also credited with raising the morale of staff by frequently introducing innovations and strategies for development and advancement.
