To bring security challenges in the country to a speedy end, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao has revealed that efforts are underway to improve the combat efficiency of the military, especially, the Nigerian Air Force.
Air Marshal Amao said that from the air force angle, strategic platforms have been purchased for the service and would be immediately deployed to the theatres of operation when they become fully operational, adding that the platforms would hopefully become the game-changer in all the DHQ-led operations nationwide.
“Hence, you must continue to support the federal government in its efforts to equip the Nigerian Air Force and other services.”
Air Marshal Amao frowned at the situation whereby subordinate officers are appointed into command positions ahead of their superiors, adding such practice has been known to cause insubordination and indiscipline within the service.
“It has not helped the military,’ he said.
He said that to correct the anomaly on the air force, his administration has concluded all arrangements to revert to the firm military tradition of strict observance of seniority and hierarchical structure in appointing seniors into command positions.
The Air Marshal said that anyone found guilty of indiscipline would be punished accordingly under the law.
“There would be no sacred cow when it comes to indiscipline as those found wanting would be punished as ascribed in the Armed Forces Act,” Amao said.
Speaking on staff promotion, the air force boss said that the inability of NAF personnel to attend promotion courses will be addressed in his time, adding that soon as any personnel meets the criteria for promotion he or she would be promoted.
On housing and accommodation, he said that NAF housing scheme should be made readily affordable and stress-free. He herefore, directed the chief of administration to work out modalities whereby payments for houses would deducted from monthly salaries.
