Right now the Nancy Pelosi led House are debating the impeachment of Republican President as represented by the fiery and intemperate Donald Trump. This obdurate stance is similar to –not the same–when the Jews screamed before Pontius Pilate: “Let his blood be on us” when they were trying to justify an unjust action. Donald Trump is known for his demeaning behaviour; why not tolerate him for the next seven days? What’s the need punishing him with a second impeachment? America has not experienced internal crisis; but the actions of House Speaker, the octogenarian Nancy Pelosi is likely to spark off an inferno.
Trump may be infantile, but his reasoning faculty is largely intact. He should be spared the agony and ignominy of a second defeat. Nancy Pelosi may not be aware of this, but sounding the death knell of her compatriot may just be the matches the enemy has been waiting for—to unleash a fireball that may consume the nation. While America has lost four years fighting their president, Iran, their arch-foe has been consolidating militarily; so also North Korea and other evil axes—the Russians, Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamist Jihadist. Though belated, Mike Pence, US Vice President showed the way of tolerance—and how to control temper.
The Americans claim to be civilized but every of their action speaks otherwise; never before has the society been so bloodied by themselves with CNN, Washington Post, and New York Times leading the way. At a point these media giants especially CNN forgot that they were supposed to report the world. Not a few people switched off from their channel in anger. Now they are about to ignite everything including a civil war by their inability to control sentiments. Regardless, however, Mike Pence, still working with his brains has politely turned down the House resolution that he removes the US president. Responding, he said, “I cannot do that which seems unreasonable with just a few days to the end of Trump’s administration”.
Nothing can be further from the truth. Mike Pence with this declaration has shown maturity, common sense and reason—something seriously lacking in the democrats. Trump, himself still brimming with a rare confidence, said: “This impeachment hoax is causing tremendous anger, so much pain, far greater than most people will ever understand, which is very dangerous for the USA, especially at this very tender time”. He is right though. The unrestrained attempt by Pelosi to press home with impeachment is anything but vengeful—like a trapped wild animal. She is going to inflame tension and cause so much division, bitterness and hatred.
The only reason why civil war has not broken out is down to America’s strong Institutions. Arguably, invoking the 25th Amendment and going ahead with the debate is as irrational as the thugs who invaded the Capitol Hill. Those thugs showed the level of tension on the streets of America. They exhibited the type of behaviour Africans are noted for scaling walls and breaking into sacred offices. The impeachment debate is a clear declaration of war against the Republicans; the grounds for dialogue has not been fully utilized. There are ways you cover your shame.
Though it is unlikely the Republicans will vote for the impeachment to hold, the repercussion is sure to reverberate far especially within the camps of radical Americans. The backlash is already being felt with the rejection of Mike Pompeo by European states who now view the American President as a “criminal”. This is what Nancy Pelosi has done by washing America’s dirty linen in public. The action of Nancy Pelosi only goes to show how weak and incompetent she is to handle crisis situations. The US strong Institutions are enough to rein in Donald Trump—not impeachment as so loved by Nancy the bully of Donald Trump!
