The Federal Government has been working assiduously through the Transmission Company of Nigeria to put an end to the incidences of frequent Grid collapse by installing powerful Transformers and building new Sub-Stations nationwide; but Nigerians need to believe, and to do that, they have to see; recently, a team of reporters went round the country to ascertain and verify these facts to kill whatever doubt that exist.

Stories by Clement Ebaku, Lucy Adah, Prince Ebri, and Ibrahim Isah, from Benin, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Enugu

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) touches the very nerve center of the average Nigerian because of its strategic importance as the provider of “light” to every home, and whenever “darkness” prevails, the blame is automatically heaped on management without caring to know the causes. And for years, this has been the trend, but the Transmission Company of Nigeria, under the leadership of Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdul-Aziz have not been asleep; as discovered in recent nationwide tour, the management under his leadership has,  infact, been passionate and strenuously trying to change the old story book by utilizing scarce resources available to wipe away the incidences of Grid collapse, eliminate darkness, by going all out to install huge  Transformers, Sub-stations, Spare parts, Situation Rooms, ICT Modules, Communication equipment and new Transmission Lines.

The aim, according to the managing director, is to effectively put an end to the old regime of frustration and usher in a new era of brightness, consistency, and sustainability in electricity supply. Before then, the Transmission Company had been under the spotlight of Nigerians and was heavily criticized for inaction, leaving the managing director in the hot seat. But as discovered in the course of the rare two-week visitation to various TCN locations nationwide, Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, contrary to the feelings of Nigerians, has in fact been delivering beyond expectations. In addition, the team was able to confirm that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda was indeed alive in TCN. The unannounced visitation, which took place from October 5 to October 19, 2025, should be a delight for millions of expectant Nigerians who have long hoped for an end to darkness and also a pat on the back for Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to rid Nigeria of darkness. This is also an eye-opener to the professional ability and competence of the man called Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, the managing director of the company

The Background

In moving forward, Nigerians need to know that TCN is not just to supply electricity; they need to know about “project delivery”, about “line projects”, “critical components”, “digital transformation aspects” “responsive and expedient maintenance”; they need to know that before this light gets to them, requires a combination of complex technical and engineering considerations which must all work together to deliver results! These are issues that stretch the very imagination of any management in place. Shockingly, the first sign that an unprecedented change was underway was the discovery of the strategic, well-articulated, and systematic programme put in place by Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, tagged “the Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation programme with short and long-term objectives. This brainchild of the leadership has inevitably transformed into outstanding successes in all aspects of transmission projects execution and operations, with significant milestone implications!

The big news is the mere fact that Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdul-Aziz is not just a first-class material in Electrical Engineering; he understands the dynamics and intricacies of his job, which is why TCN is breathing again! The epileptic power supply being experienced at the moment is like the last of such to be experienced by Nigerians. Judging by what was discovered on the ground, it is a matter of time for Nigerians to welcome an uninterrupted power supply! As a matter of fact, from the calculations on the ground, this may well be before the end of 2027!  For Engr. Abdul-Aziz has not only demonstrated uncommon talent, but he has surreptitiously created a conducive environment for sustained growth and success! Under his leadership, TCN now coordinates efforts, resolves issues, and aligns strategies that ensure reliable transmission of bulk energy throughout the country!

That, TCN is gradually being transformed into a world-class transmission company capable of competing with first-world countries because of Abdul-Aziz’s deft management of transformation projects, constructions, network operations, and maintenance, as well as human resources management, is not an understatement! However, you may need to know that the gentleman in the saddle did not just drop from the skies as discovered; a crack visionary by all standards and a confirmed genius, he was formerly Regional Transformation Manager of Shiroro and Abuja Regions; then he became Project Engineer with exemplary cognate experience in Project initiation, project design, coordination, administration, and management!

This is the seasoned technocrat who is driving President Tinubu’s bold revolution to overhaul the electricity regime in Nigeria! It is in the light of this background testimony that our team of reporters set out to visit the Eight Regions to ascertain what job has been done; the completed projects, the ongoing ones, the Transformers installed, whether they are of quality, the Line Projects, and the Sub-Stations critical to Nigeria’s electricity needs are real.  Stay tuned for Part Two revelation, having introduced the background report!
