Mr. Babatund Fowler, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has come under searchlight for what presidency sources describe as shortfalls in tax collection.

Specifically, he was asked to explain the reasons why from 20015 – 2018 the budgeted amount fell short of actual collections for each main tax item for each of the year 2015 to 2018.

The statement read that the actual collections for the period 2015 – 2017 were significantly worse than what was collected between 2012 and 2014.  Fowler was asked to respond by August 19, 2019.

The FIRS boss was first appointed by President Buhari on August 18, 2015 and confirmed by the Senate on December 9, of the same year.

63 years old Fowler, who is a tax administrator had previously served as Executive Chairman, Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue.

The development is coming on the heels of his second term reappointment.
