Several pressure groups and frontline non-governmental organizations have been hailing the decision of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman Alhaji Mala Mai Bunu for rebuffing attempts by underground agents to scuttle the APC membership and revalidation drive scheduled to run throughout the month of February, 2021. The groups from both Northern and Southern divide unanimously affirmed their massive support for the Acting Chairman standing his grounds and not wavering under apparent outside influence and forces.
The groups in the same vein called on Honorable James Faleke, the House Committee chairman on Finance to come out openly and stop playing to the gallery. The groups accused the Committee Chairman for being insensitive to the plight of the masses and the insecurity ravaging the southern region especially the Ibarapa incidence where herdsmen have gone berserk. “Faleke, we all know is speaking for his master who everybody knows; they are still playing the well-known old game, but this time we can not be deceived”, explained Lateef Gbadamosu, head of the Global Rights for Peace, Abuja Chapter.
“They have not commented on the ongoing killings and threats to life; but they will spend money to frustrate such an important occasion that will be benefit everybody”, he claimed. Kennedy Uzoho, Chairman, United Foundation for Survival and Sustainability accused Honorable Faleke for trying to disrupt a national process just to achieve a selfish end. “He is speaking for his master; what has a committee chairman on finance to do with APC registration exercise?”, his organization queried.
Jibril Umaru, Secretary-General for the Advocacy for Good Governance condemned the actions of Faleke and urged him to focus on his job at the National Assembly. “Membership and registration drive is to register new members that will enhance the success of the party in future elections and not the success of private individuals”, he cautioned. Mai Bunu was then told to proceed with the exercise without any further distractions. “Let him remain firm; let him shun whoever thinks he is powerful and a godfather; no one is above the law”, they stressed.
It would be recalled that Honorable James Faleke had written a letter to the APC boss suggesting postponement for the already scheduled exercise because of the rampaging Covid-19 pandemic and the fear of spread. But in a response, Mai Bun thanked him for the concern shown and assured him that his fears were being addressed.
