Amidst the clamour for president Buhari to dissolve his cabinet, Chairman of the Committee for Action, Equity and Rights Comrade Bashiru Adamu has issued a statement calling on President Muhammed Buhari to urgently dissolve his present cabinet and replace them with reputed professionals. Comrade Bashiru, in the statement, advised Buhari not to waste further time by dismissing the current set of ministers for lack of performance and indolence.
He accused them of abandoning the ideals and principles of the All Progressive Congress party and towing the path of incompetence. Comrade Bashiru was categorical that the ministers especially the one in charge of works have completely let president Buhari down for the precarious state of Nigerian roads. Bashiru wondered how a two-time governor and now minster is expected to deliver arguing that he has lost steam and direction. “The hunger is no longer there so also the spirit; the president should allow them to go and satisfy other vocations”, Bashiru stated.
In another vein, president of Nigerian Youth Alliance (NYA) Alhaji Ismaila Yakubu wants president Buhari to populate his government with tested professionals. “This is time for nation-building; politics need to give way for now”, he revealed. Alhaji Ismaila pointed out that with the level of poverty gripping the nation only tested professionals can deliver; he disclosed that the president should stop the habit of appointing people on the basis of “influential” recommendation alone. “The president should put the nation first and above whatever influence the so-called godfathers may have and resist pressure”, he said.
The Network Forum for Stabilization and Tolerance, Honorable Tunde Adisa on its part wants the president to appoint only people with proven capabilities. He went on to name some of the people as Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo from Gombe state, Senator Sanusi Daggash from Borno, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman Alhaji, from Sokoto, Senator Kashim Shettima of Borno, Patrick Utomi, Bismarck Rewane, George Etomi and not least Mr Akinwunmi Ambode all of Lagos State. Akinwunmi Ambode especially is a proven hand in financial matters and was indeed a leading FAAC member with the knowledge of how to tune the economy favourably for many years.
He also mentioned names such as Professor Bath Nnaji, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu from the Eastern part of Nigeria, and Amina Muhammed from Gombe State. Honourable Tunde stressed that Nigeria is blessed with exemplary personalities and was too big to be left in the hands of unserious people now parading themselves as ministers. The chairman informed the president that his group was ready to back the dismissal of his cabinet to pave way for the much-needed transformation the nation desires!
