It is a joyous celebration as the former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode finally steps out into the limelight in Epe, his home base, to perform his civic responsibility of taking part in the ongoing APC Membership and Revalidation exercise. Taking the lead, a group known as the Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko Vanguard has set up Canvassers for the exercise all over the State. The convener, Mr. Seyi Bamigbade disclosed to newsmen that plans have been put in place for the exercise in all poll units of the State. He said that this process was necessary for good infrastructure, health, education to be in place. ‘If we have to have amenities and enjoy the good life in future, this is where to start from”, he stated urging loyal party members to come out en masse and register for future elections.
“The All Progressive Congress is our party and as loyal members, we must mobilize tirelessly for the registration exercise to be successful”, he declared. Mr. Ambode’s appearance and readiness for the exercise has been described as a welcome development by insiders in the party who yearned for genuine progress. Earlier, a notable Rep member Hon. James Faleke and former national chairman of the party Chief Bisi Akande had variously called for suspension and a shift citing Covid-19 and the dearth of cash as a reason, but the national chairman Mai Mala Bunu disagreed insisting that the membership drive must go ahead. Feelers from Epe, Amobode’s home base showed jubilant youths relishing the appearance of Ambode who is adored and is believed to have cult-like followership in Epe.
In his appearance remarks, Ambode appealed to his supporters to shun violence and cautioned against all forms of malpractices during the registration exercise. He also said the party’s image should be preserved, adding that all party faithful are free to register and ensure they maintain all covid-19 protocols. He further praised the national leadership of the party for a smooth and hitch-free registration exercise.
